Concept: Our crew celebrated its 10th anniversary with a massive production with the Toledo Seagate Food Bank. This wall had been secured in years past to paint for several other productions and we approached them about painting it again for our event. Permission was granted to paint into the top section of the wall as well as a charitable donation to supply all of the paint and materials used. The wall had become incredibly overgrown and required a great deal of clear cutting and landscaping to prepare it for paint. The wall itself was in bad condition as the previous layers of paint were peeling off in large sections. We pressure washed all of the surfaces to remove the loose excess paint and used airless paint sprayers to prime out the fresh surface.
After mulling several concepts, we settled on an underwater theme for our benefit of individually getting to create different creatures of the sea. My contribution involved developing a uniform matching color pallet for all of the pieces as well as the background imagery. We made a group effort to practice realism with our characters and to dismiss the use of hard black outlines, typically associated with character painting. The result produced a more life like appearance and better cohesive mingling of the background and foreground.
With the help of Dreams of Fields Landscaping, I was able to utilize the company bucket truck to paint the top section of the wall with our lettering and volcano scene.
The first slide in this gallery is my piece contribution and the rest of the photos that follow shows the rest of our members and their work along the wall.
